The Tour of Cambridgeshire is an inclusive two day cycling festival the centre piece of which is an authentic continental style Gran Fondo. It is the only authentic closed roads Gran Fondo in the UK. A Gran Fondo is the cycling equivalent of the a big city marathon whereby elite athletes start at the front ahead of club athletes, fun participants and also charity fundraisers. The Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo is the same format but on bicycles. The Gran Fondo start is organised according to aspiration of the participants. If your aspiration is to enjoy the safe experience of fully closed roads on a flat circuit and to complete the route in a leisurely group then the ToC Gran Fondo Alzheimer’s Research UK Leisure Community is for you.
The ToC Gran Fondo Alzheimer’s Research UK Leisure Community ride is 58 miles long. There are two ‘Pit Stops’ on route. The ride will be supported by motorcycle based officials, medical support and the broom wagon convoy. There will also be great signage and traffic management officials along the route.
If the 2015 is anything to go by you’ll be lifted by the huge support of the villages along the way too. There were local riders who were humbled and immensely proud of the turnout and encouragement from the communities who embraced the event, many of whom want future editions to pass long their high streets.
All riders will be expected to maintain a minimum pace of 13 mph (20.8 kph) from around 12.30hrs when the ride is expected to start.
If your ride is affected by punctures, mechanical issues or you have just had enough then you can be repatriated along with your bike back to the Peterborough Arena and Showground in one of our coaches. We won’t leave you out on the roads to fend for yourselves.
ToC is a cycling festival and benefits from huge production around the start and finish. This is your chance to feel like a ‘Pro’ and be inspired to deliver your personal ambition.
